Default New to game Monk options.

Hi all,

I just started playing this and look foreward to the PVP side of this game but first im playing the roleplaying one and i want to make a monk but im wondering what is the best mage class to put along with monk, i was reading up and i was thinking about going a monk/mesmer, would that be such a bad idea farther into the game or would it hinder my party abilities?

Mesmer can be a fine choice for a monk's secondary profession. There are many things a memser has to offer that can enhance a monk. The same thing can be said for Necromancer too.

A mesmer can reinforce your ability to remove hexes, damage, help you regain energry and many other clever and useful tasks.

I dont think any second profession helps a monk really. But if i had to say one go for Mesmer for the energy boosting skills, or a Necro for Offering of blood (elite spell) boosting of energy.

Yes, go mesmer second class. You can ALWAYS change second professions later in tha game. After all, mo/me is the universal sign for a great team playing monk!

All I have to yell is PURE HEALING MONK lfg and I get countless requests. This will make progressing through the story line super fast and get you ascended asap. Once ascended, then you can start thinking about another second profession. Until then, it's best to go with what everyone will love you for: Great healing/protecting & great debuffing!

That's about as incorrect and misleading as statements go. To your credit you phrased it as an opinion and I guess everyone is entitled to one. Pretty much every secondary class helps. The worst is probably ranger though do to a lack of viable energy management so just don't go that route.

Warrior - defensive stances and shouts plus you can run around with a shield (bonnetti's for energy management)
Mesmer - hex removal, enchant removal, great energy management (check the inspiration line)
Necro - best single energy management skill in the game (offering of blood). Note that it's elite so you won't get it for a long time.
Elementalist -- good defensive options plus energy management in the form of glyphs. Probably not the best choice if you're playing for the first time.

I would say mesmer or warrior works best in PvE especially when you're first starting off. My first character was a monk/warrior and I had no regrets.
